St.Jakob Church

If you want a break from skiing why not take a walk to the village of St.Jakob. St Jakob is a total contrast to St.Anton as it is still very much a small farming community and is very picturesque. The village church has been renovated this summer and is very beautiful inside and well worth a look.

Verwallstubbe candle lit dinner

Every Friday evening the Verwallstubbe at the Galzig station is open for a candle lit dinner. This restaurant is also open during the day if you fancy an expensive gourmet lunch. As you would expect with a gourmet restaurant everything is of a very high standard - and of course a very high price - expect to pay in the region of 150 euro a head with wine! To reach the restaurant in the evening you take the Gondola to the Galzig and when you reach the top you will find great views of St.Anton lit up way below you. A very romantic setting for a special occasion.

The ski show

Every Wednesday evening at 9pm the ski school put on a ski show. It takes place on the slope that comes down from the Fangbahn and finishes in the world championship stadium. To find your way there just walk up onto the slopes behind the wellness centre. The show traces the origins of skiing and the development of the modern ski technique as pioneered in St.Anton by Hannes Schneider. There is some pretty spectacular skiing and there is also a freeride show featuring some amazing jumps, spins & somersaults....

The top of the Valluga

If it is a nice sunny day and you have had enough skiing for the day - maybe you should take the cable car up to the top of the Valluga. The view is totally amazing, you feel like you are on the top of the world. You take the second cable car that goes up from the Galzig station and then from the next station you take the small cable car right up to the very top. You will not be able to take your skis up there as you are only allowed to ski off the very top with a qualified guide - this is because it is a very difficult and dangerous route, whilst at the top you will see the slope that heads off towards Zurs and realise just how steep it is..... Don't forget to take your camera.

Bifangalm

This is something that you may wish to do whilst you are in St.Anton - every Thursday and Friday evening the Bifangalm restaurant that is situated towards the bottom of the piste down from Rendl is open. You can book a ride up to the restaurant in a piste basher or you can of course walk up the snow covered path (about 20 minutes). When you are there you cook your own meat on a hot stone (a little like a fondue but without the oil) and you get an unlimited supply of chips. The wine is pretty good too and the restaurant is in the style of an old farmhouse. The cost of the food is 24 euro.
